Center for Applied Linguistics, Arlington, VA. (1976). Reader. Grade 4. This textbook is the fourth in the official reading series developed by the Ministry of Education in Saigon and used in all public schools in Vietnam. The books in this series have been reprinted in their entirety from the original editions for use in elementary schools in the United States which have Vietnamese students. This grade 4 reader consists of 96 lessons divided into six chapters: (1) Life in the Country; (2) Life in the City; (3) Occupations; (4) Commerce and Trade; (5) Transportation; and (6) The Universe. There is a small story at the end of each chapter, as well as several short poems to be memorized. All illustrations are provided in black and white; therefore, references to colored illustrations in the text should be ignored. Center for Applied Linguistics, Arlington, VA. (1976). Reader. Grade 5. This textbook is the last in the official reading series developed by the Ministry of Education in Saigon and used in all public schools in Vietnam. Hillerich, Robert L. (1970). ERMAS: Beginning Reading Program for Mexican American Children, National Elementary Principal. Describes the Experiment in Reading for Mexican American Students (ERMAS) a Title III, ESEA program in Spanish that is taught in a manner consistent with the program to be used for reading in English. While learning to read in Spanish, the child simultaneously learns to speak English through an aural-oral approach. Wissot, Jay (1970). A Total Approach to the High School English-as-a-Second-Language Program, TESOL Quarterly. The OE sponsored Spanish Curricula Development Center plans to produce, field test, and revise 48 multidisciplinary, multimedia two-week unit curricula kits — 16 for first grade, 16 for second grade, and 16 for third grade, to contain materials for teachers and for pupils.
