(1976). French-Language Instruction: A Closer Look at Schools in Southwestern Manitoba, Prairie Forum. The study assessed intra-school factors that seemed to be related to the sharp enrollment decline in French-language classes in southwestern Manitoba. Questionnaires were distributed to all French-language teachers and principals in 78 elementary and secondary schools in 14 school divisions and school districts. It was found that a high proportion of French-language teachers in the rural southwestern divisions proved to be inadequately prepared. (1978). Evaluation of the Second Year of a Bilingual (English-Ukrainian) Program, Canadian Modern Language Review. A description of the English-Ukrainian bilingual program in the primary grades of the Edmonton Public Schools. Objectives and evaluative criteria are given. Results show no significant difference between regular and bilingual classes in standardized test scores. Children learned a significant amount of Ukrainian. This study examined bilingual children's performance in reading Persian and English at grades one, three, and six.
