Bridges, George H., Jr. (1976). Health Occupations Programs Designed to Serve Different Cultures, American Vocational Journal. The article summarizes presentations on urban and rural health occupations made to the Health Occupations Education Division at the American Vocational Association's 1975 Convention. Morrison, Barbara J. (1987). Acceleration with Affect, Gifted Child Today (GCT). The Las Cruces (New Mexico) Public Schools' Advanced Education Program offers gifted students a means of accelerating through the curriculum. The pilot program features a district advisory committee, facilitators, course credit, transportation to other schools, and a caseload approach. Activities are designed around four goals: flexibility; decision making; time management; and task completion. Welsh, Mary McAnaw (1976). A Campus Goes to the Community, Journal of Home Economics. Thomas, John I. (1975). "The Times, They Are a-Changin'", Improving College and University Teaching. Describes change in the New Mexico State University teacher training program which involved integration of three previously separate courses into a coordinated sequence developed and taught by an interdisciplinary team. Williams, Robert (1986). Prevalence of Hepatitis A Virus Antibody Among Navajo School Children, American Journal of Public Health. A serologic investigation of prevalence of immunity to hepatitis A (anti-HAV) was conducted in a rural school adjacent to a Navajo reservation in New Mexico. The results show rates of anti-HAV that are the highest reported at the ages tested in any subpopulation in the United States, comparable only with those in developing countries. And Others; Peffley, Ellen S. (1978). Gardening for Food and Fun with Senior Citizens, Agricultural Education. The article describes a vegetable gardening project for the elderly (age 65 or older) sponsored by a community action agency and the New Mexico State University horticulture department. Bryan, Betsy (1986). Rural Teachers' Experiences: Lessons for Today, Rural Educator. Compares and contrasts first year teaching experiences of a grandmother (1919) and granddaughter (1980) in small, isolated, rural New Mexico schools. Offers suggestions for improving recruitment and retention of rural teachers in areas of salary, housing conditions, school philosophy and morale, student population, and community life. Montoya, Harry; DeBlassie, Richard R. (1985). Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory Comparisons Between Hispanic and Anglo College Students: A Research Note, Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences. Empirically examines differences on Introversion-Extroversion Scale and General Occupational Themes of Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory between 88 Hispanic and 88 Anglo New Mexico State University students. Indicates no significant differences between Hispanics and Anglos. Suggests Hispanics are becoming bicultural and combining their values with those of the mainstream culture. Kirschenbaum, Robert (1988). Methods for Identifying the Gifted and Talented American Indian Student, Journal for the Education of the Gifted. This article discusses the cultural and ethnic limitations of current definitions of giftedness and describes instruments that may be used to identify gifted and talented American Indian students. It also summarizes alternative criteria for placing Indian students in gifted programs and describes identification procedures at an elementary school on the Zuni reservation in New Mexico. Gustafson, John A. (1986). Observing Two Important Teaching Variables, Physical Educator. Atencio, Benjamin (1987). An Enthusiasm to Learn Through Video, Phi Delta Kappan. The students of the Santo Domingo Public School (New Mexico) are all members of the Santo Domingo American Indian tribe. When they reach ninth grade they move into a more diversely populated school. To help the students adjust to the change, the School Improvement Through Communication Program was initiated in 1984. Kelly, Michael; Prier, Linda (1974). Education for Becoming: Two Field Programs at Antioch, Interface Journal.
