Nelson, Mary (1977). Conversational Spanish for Industrial Use, Community College Frontiers. Describes a pilot project designed by a community college to help employees of a local company solve a language-barrier problem. The bilingual course combined English-speaking and Spanish-speaking employees in the same class so that they could help each other and featured lessons tailor-made to the needs of the company. Rudin, Neil (1976). An Ethnic Studies Component in the FL Curriculum, Bulletin of the Association of Departments of Foreign Languages. Enrollment in ethnic studies courses is greatly increasing as students seek to learn the history, language, nature, problems and contributions of their own ethnic group. Language departments can aid this trend and meet students' needs by offering language and ethnic literature and culture courses. Bouton, Lawrence F. (1975). Meeting Needs of Children with Diverse Linguistic and Ethnic Backgrounds, Foreign Language Annals. A program at one elementary school served foreign students' needs by teaching language arts, as well as tutoring in other subjects, in their native language. Native English speakers studied a second language, and varying cultural backgrounds of teachers and students were emphasized and studied. Molina, Huberto (1975). Evaluating the Effectiveness of a Program Used in School Situations Characterized by High Pupil Absenteeism and Attrition, System. A report is made of a follow-up on a 1971-1972 tryout of the SWRL English Language and Concepts Program for Spanish-Speaking Children. The follow-up report is based on data collected from 6 school districts involving 24 schools at the end of the 1972-1973 school year.
