Obadia, Andre A. (1981). Programme d'immersion: croissance phenomenale et penible (An Immersion Program: Remarkable but Difficult Growth), Canadian Modern Language Review. Describes the remarkable expansion of French immersion programs in Canada during the last fifteen years, stating that this "quiet revolution" of bilingualism among English-speaking Canadians has occurred in spite of various administrative, financial, pedagogical, and sociopolitical problems. Collison, David (1980). A Bilingual Experiment in a German School, English Language Teaching Journal. Despite the popularity English holds in Germany and the advantage English teaching has over teaching in other countries, students often lack fluency and confidence in their use of the language. The "bilingual" program aims to develop communicative skills and familiarize students with English-speaking countries' culture. Clement, Richard (1978). Immersion and Residence Programs: Their Effects on Attitude and Anxiety, Interchange on Educational Policy. The social psychological effects of total immersion and residence programs on students' attitudes toward French Canadians and French-use anxiety are assessed and compared. Hamayan, Else V.; Tucker, G. Richard (1980). Language Input in the Bilingual Classroom and its Relationship to Second Language Achievement, TESOL Quarterly. Examines the characteristics of teachers' language in the classroom and the use of explicit teaching behaviors in an attempt to determine the relationship between selected characteristics of formal language input and second language achievement. Steindl, Michael (1979). Entwicklung bilingualer Materialien fuer den Fachunterricht mit Auslaenderkindern (Developing Bilingual Materials for Teaching Foreign Children), Zielsprache Deutsch. Describes three systems for teaching foreign children German along with their native language. Concludes that teaching various subjects in the foreign language aids in learning the language.
