Spicer, Keith (1978). The speech, half in French and half in English, is an endorsement of the association, an indication of political, social and educational reforms it might influence, a reminder that members of the association, Canadian Parents for French, were present and interested, and an appeal for good public relations. Landry, Rodrigue J. (1978). Le bilingualisme: Le facteur repetition (Bilingualism: The Repetition Factor), Canadian Modern Language Review. Recent research is reviewed demonstrating positive effects of bilingualism on cognitive development, some explanation of this research are given, and an interpretation is offered bearing on the variability of memory codes in bilinguals. Burt, Marina; Dulay, Heidi (1978). Some Guidelines for the Assessment of Oral Language Proficiency and Dominance, TESOL Quarterly. Lambert, Wallace E. (1978). Cognitive and Socio-Cultural Consequences of Bilingualism, Canadian Modern Language Review. A review of the research indicating that bilingual children enjoy a definite advantage in the domain of cognitive flexibility. Further, there is no basis for the belief that becoming bilingual or bicultural necessarily means a loss of identity. Application of the studies to ethnolinguistic minority groups is discussed. Presents a case study and its community covering grouping arrangements for allocation of children of different scholastic achievement and language proficiency and the relationship of these groupings to curriculum and the school. Trites, Ronald (1978). Learning Disabilities in Immersion, Canadian Modern Language Review. Two questions are addressed: (1) Should immersion programs be offered to all children, and (2) should the child who is experiencing difficulties in immersion be switched to the regular English program? It is felt that there is no definite answer to the first question at present and that the answer to the second is "yes." Wagman, Anita (1981). Language Experiences in Bilingualism, Childhood Education. Discusses the growing recognition of international and social priorities concerning bilingual competency, the relevance of these priorities for child development, and research findings comparing the verbal and nonverbal skills of monolingual and bilingual children. The implications of the research for preschool and elementary curricula in the United States are discussed. Fishman, Joshua A. (1980). Ethnocultural Dimensions in the Acquisition and Retention of Biliteracy, Journal of Basic Writing. Notes the implications of such examinations and comparisons regarding regular English instruction and teaching English to speakers of other languages. Valverde, Leonard A. (1978). Instructional Leadership for Bicultural Programs: Role Responsibilities and Relationships, Education and Urban Society.
