Quintal, Claire (1977). Sur les traces de l'heritage francais en Nouvelle-Angleterre: Boston. Livret du Maitre (Tracing French Heritage in New England: Boston. Teacher's Guide). This manual, intended to accompany the student's text of the same title, contains: (1) a general introduction describing the nature and purpose of the materials; (2) an outline of the components of the package, including the teacher's guide, the student's text, and a slide cassette-tape program; (3) an outline of the general objectives of the materials; (4) the narrative that appears in the student textbook along with the English equivalent of each narrative; and (5) a sample pre-post test that corresponds to the stated objectives, with the answer key in French. The objectives stated are the following: (1) to provide historical information concerning the French influence in the Boston area, especially during the Revolutionary and post-Revolutionary periods of American history; and (2) to foster student pride in the French cultural heritage in America. The French words and expressions that are glossed at the end of the student booklet are underlined in the text of the teacher's manual. Spanish Curricula Development Center, Miami Beach, FL. (1977). SCDC Spanish Curricula Units. Science/Math Strand, Unit 3, Grade One, Supplement & Ditto Packet. Instructional aids and ditto masters for unit three of a science/math curriculum in Spanish for first graders are included in this supplement and ditto packet. Encompassing kits 9-12, these materials are designed for use with learning activities referred to in the teacher's guide corresponding to this unit. Illustrations and materials for both group activities and seatwork by students are to aid in the teaching of numbers, days of the week, and months; telling time; recognizing symmetry in two- and three-dimensional figures; making a calendar; learning the value of a cent, nickel, dime, and quarter; and recording temperature changes on a Celsius thermometer. Some supplementary materials are to be cut out for manipulations by small groups or individuals, while others are to be used full size. The worksheets are to be presented under supervision rather than presented as independent tasks. Introductions to the supplement and ditto packet are in both English and Spanish. Spanish Curricula Development Center, Miami Beach, FL. (1977). SCDC Spanish Curricula Units. Language Arts Strand, Unit 2, Grade One, Supplement & Ditto Packet. Designed for use with unit two of the bilingual language arts program for grade one, this supplement and ditto packet contains visual aids and materials for seatwork by students or for class activities. A teacher's guide corresponding to this unit, which consists of units five through eight, gives the timetable for when these materials are to be used. Illustrations and worksheets in the revised supplement are to help the teacher carry out learning activities in oral language development, language-experience reading, structured reading, and comprehension and interpretation skills. New letters, words, and structures are introduced in the materials through activities focusing on the basic theme of the family. All language appearing on materials to be used in the classroom are in Spanish, with introductions to the supplement and ditto packet in both Spanish and English. These supplementary teaching materials include pictures to illustrate stories (some for use on flannel boards), new words, letters, student worksheets, and visuals for classroom discussion. In general, worksheets for individual pupils are to be presented under supervision rather than as independent tasks. National Consortia for Bilingual Education, Fort Worth, TX. (1971). Kindergarten Bilingual Resource Handbook. This curriculum bulletin has been developed to assist kindergarten teachers who work with bilingual five-year-olds. It contains activities which are appropriate for this age which relate to his cultural background and which deal with concepts within his immediage range of experiences. The handbook includes details on such topics as early childhood education and the bilingual approach, curriculum design, characteristics of the five-year-old, activities of teacher aides, suggestions for bulletin boards and room arrangements, suggested daily schedules and plans, strategies and suggestions, resource and activity units, resource material in Spanish, and the construction of various teaching aids. This guide is designed to provide teachers with instructional strategies and techniques to enhance the content area and language achievement of intermediate and advanced bilingual/English-as-a- Second-Language (ESL) learners in New York City (New York) public schools. Its content is geared to recently-developed city standards for curriculum design and student performance in English language arts. An introductory section gives background information on the materials, standards, and instructional scope and sequence. The second contains seven instructional units with activities keyed to specific standards, and including worksheets; each unit has activities bridging two instructional levels (beginning/intermediate, intermediate/advanced, advanced/transitional). New York City Board of Education, Brooklyn, NY. Office of Bilingual Education. (1997). Russian/English Interdisciplinary Lessons for General Education and Special Education Students. Grades 3-5. The materials consist of four lessons each at grade levels 3-5, designed for use by both Russian bilingual and English-monolingual teachers in general and special education. The lessons are cross-referenced to learning and performance standards established for New York City (New York) public schools. Each unit (group of grade-level lessons) focuses on a major cultural theme and uses skills in mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts. Lessons include a learning objective, key vocabulary, list of materials, motivational techniques, presentation procedure, class activities, extension activities, adaptations for special education students, and illustration(s). The third grade unit features "blini," a Russian food, and lessons address measuring skills, the effect of yeast, chemical changes, and related stories, customs, and traditions. The fourth grade unit focuses on the Russian community, with lessons on reasons for immigration, immigration experiences, creation of a collage, and the Russian community in New York City. The fifth grade unit, on Russian flax, contains lessons on use of resources and geography, parts and functions of the flower, and life cycles. New Jersey State Dept. of Education, Trenton. Div. of Compensatory/Bilingual Education. (1984). Effective Practices for Successful Bilingual Parent Involvement Programs: An Administrator's Handbook. P.T.M. No. 400.20. This handbook provides information to New Jersey school district administrators for developing involvement programs for the parents of children of limited English proficiency. First, the benefits of parent involvement, and the roles of educators and parents are outlined. Then, a philosophy and rationale for parent involvement is presented, and suggestions are given for setting goals and developing programs around identified needs. Advice on communicating with parents is provided, and effective parent involvement strategies are outlined. Several recent efforts in New Jersey to establish parent involvement programs are described, and the importance of evaluating programs is asserted. And finally, these resource materials are included: a possible schedule of meetings and other parent activities; a sample meeting notification letter; a sample meeting agenda; a sample questionnaire and sample worksheet for conducting a needs assessment; two planning guides; a list of possible topics to be covered at parent meetings; a checklist for arranging a meeting; procedures for conducting a meeting; a sample school visit record for parents; and a checklist for evaluating a parent involvement program. This directory of Title VII Network Center libraries is intended to facilitate communication among the Network Centers. It is arranged by type of center–assessment and dissemination, training resource, and materials development. The directory is subdivided alphabetically by state and alphabetically by the centers' names within states. For each library at least one contact person is included, the person in charge of the library or another contact. The materials consist of five mathematics and five science lessons for Haitian bilingual students in general and special education in grades 4-8. A thematic/interdisciplinary approach was used in designing the lesson, incorporating theory of multiple intelligences, Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives, and other learning theories. The lessons are based on two major themes: games Haitian children play, and the environment. A science lesson and a mathematics lesson are presented for each grade level.
