Description: Mumbai is home to some of India's leading universities, and the management and engineering programs available to students here are first-rate. In addition to training the next generation of business, technological and medical leaders, there is a need to train the next generation of Indian thinkers on foreign policy and security issues. India is playing an increasingly-active role in regional and global affairs, as evidenced, for example, by evacuating citizens from Yemen and providing much-needed assistance to Nepal following a devastating earthquake in April 2015. As India increases its regional and global engagement, the rising generation of Indian leaders will benefit from access to focused security studies. Currently, there are few if any dedicated security studies programs at western India academic institutions. The U. S. Consulate General Mumbai seeks to support a U. S. university-Indian university partnership to develop a one-year certificate program in international security studies. The ideal partner will be a U. S. university with a recognized security studies program, or institution with a record of developing security studies programs. The U. S. Consulate General Mumbai will complement the academic course with guest lectures as possible from visiting speakers, U. S. officials, and resident expertise in the Consulate and Embassy. Through this program, we hope to enhance educational ties and to better prepare emerging Indian scholars and practitioners for India's growing role in regional and global affairs.
